The Top Gas Grill Picks and Reviews

Best $100 Budget: Char-Broil Classic 280 2 Burner Gas Grill

If you want to own a gas grill with only a hundred-dollar budget, you can easily find your selections among portable and tabletop gas grills. But there’s going to be quite a number of junks mixed in as well, so careful scrutiny is a must. Now if we want to be a bit more ambitious and look for a DECENT traditional sized gas grill, then dude that’s gonna be like looking for a needle in a haystack! I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s not going to be easy either. Personally, I’ll suggest you to just save a bit more to further increase your budget and have better options. But if you’re really tight on budget and about $100 is your limit then this one’s for you!

It took a while but I did find a good deal in Char-Broil Classic 280. Now Char-Broil isn’t new to the scene and has been pretty notorious when it comes to offering a wide range of affordable BBQ cookers. Honestly, there’s pretty much a love and hate relationship with these guys. They’re easily put under the impression of being cheap due to their products’ low costs, which some of those do deliver short. But we shouldn’t be quick to judge as they also have really cool products that can perform just as well as other popular brands for astonishingly half its price. And Char-Broil Classic 280 is one of those great finds for only hundred bucks.

With a $100 budget in mind, almost everything about this classic grill becomes hard to resist. Its classy black finish is sure to mesh well with your backyard. The build quality is sufficient despite the appearance but definitely not the toughest around. The stand provides enough support for the firebox and won’t easily fall to the ground for no good reason. But it’s better to be safe so don’t let any kids horse around near it. There’s a good chance it will topple over when pushed from the front, considering the thickness of its legs may not be enough to hold down that force. On a bright side, the Classic 280 sits on a 2 fixed legs to keep it in place, and 2 6-inch wheels for easier mobility.

For such an affordable grill, it’s worth noting that most of its body is made of metals and the shell of the grill is actually coated with porcelain. It’s not as tough as stainless steel but this gives it that much more staying power against rust due to outside elements and tough weather! Overall, it’s a no-nonsense design, proving that this sleek creation by Char-Broil is great for basic grilling that both hobbyists can enjoy and rookies can get their hands on. And if you’re actually a serious rookie aspiring to be a pro, Classic 280 is more than a suitable starter grill for you to practice with.

You’ll love that it’s easy to cook on and clean since it isn’t built too wide or big that everything feels easy to reach when you use it. I particularly love the two metal shelves that extend from its sides as they are perfect for putting plates of food that are about to be cooked on one side while you can place the finished pieces on the other shelf.

This gas grill offers 280 square inches of cooking surface on porcelain-coated wire grates. There are a total of two stainless steel in-line burners capable of delivering 20,000 BTUs of firepower across its cooking area which is more than enough to grill 12 burgers at the same time! It’s a little short on the recommended heat efficiency over its size which purists will look for. It might take a while to reach a really high temperature and it might even be almost impossible for you to get those rib-eye steaks seared perfectly all the time for sure.

Nevertheless, you’ll be pleased to know that it offers better control for high or low heat, good heat retention, can cook common foods with total ease and still allows you to serve a large group of hungry peeps! Also, if you’re tired of gas grills that are challenging to start, you won’t find this a problem with its Piezo ignition system that sparks with every push.

If there’s one thing this will drive you nuts, it definitely has to do with its assembly! Make sure to set a lot of time putting this together for it’s going to be quite the pieces of a puzzle to complete. Its instructions aren’t very helpful as well so your patience will really be put to test and you’ll be learning a lot on your own. It’s going to be a troublesome start but once you get the hang of it, you’ll get it easily done.

With Char-Broil Classic 280, we’re going back to basics and focus on the real job – grilling! As I’ve been pointing out, Classic 280 is a capable grill designed with no-nonsense features and performs its common job well. It is more or less priced at $100 with free shipping on Amazon and is also available with a side burner for an additional ten bucks. Partnering all these cool details with its price, I’d say the Char-Broil Classic 280 is a grill that’s pretty hard to beat!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Char-Broil Classic 280’s Sizzling Features

  • 280 square inches of cooking space over porcelain-coated grates
  • Two stainless steel in-line burners producing 20,000 BTU’s
  • Porcelain-coated steel lid and firebox stand up to tough weather and the elements
  • Metal side shelves measure 12-inches w x 13-inches, providing extra storage and prep space
  • Piezo ignition system for fast and reliable startups

Taking a big step up in terms of build quality, the Dyna-Glo Smart Living 3 Burner Gas Grill earns itself the spotlight as yet another great investment on a gas grill. The first thing you would probably notice with this is its beautiful stainless steel body; so shiny and brand spanking new – not to mention, super easy to maintain! The stainless steel finish extends to even the burner knobs which turn smoothly with that satisfying heft that makes you feel the quality of workmanship.

Anyone who sees you use this gas grill will immediately know you mean business when you grill or barbecue! So, let’s get down to its features. There are a total of 3 burners with a very powerful 36,000 BTU rating that provides fast, high and consistent heat across its 503 square inches cooking area. With that size, you can cook 18-21 meat patties at the same time! You can easily throw a burger party among your friends without it being a buzz kill. But it’s not just limited to burgers, with its heat efficiency, Dyna-Glo allows flexibility and more variety of food or recipes to try to grill.

You can easily fire this baby up to 300 degrees in just 3 minutes and about 550 to 600 degrees within 5-7 minutes with all three burners in full throttle and lid closed. That’s because the grill itself is made of heavy gauge porcelain enameled cast iron and has a double wall stainless still lid which is good for retaining heat to sear foods and lock in foods’ natural juices. Showing that this grill cares about the quality of your dishes, there are also Steel Heat tents to protect the burners and flavor foods. You’ll surely taste the meat’s savory flavor in every bite!

You have a great size for cooking without taking up too much space so it’s perfect even for small decks. The side shelves for this model need recognition because not only are they handy for placing plates of uncooked and cooked meats on both sides of the grill, but there are thoughtful slots on either shelf suitable for hanging tongs, and even an integrated towel bar for cleaning rags. Never mind frantically running back and forth just to get your ingredients for cooking, preparing the sauces or reaching out to your tools; the Dyna-Glo provides ample space for all that. And when not in use, you can fold its collapsible side table so it won’t get in your way and take up too much footprint.

And your cooked meal is guaranteed perfect with the help of its built-in, stainless thermometer for better and accurate control of your grill’s temperature, cooking your food just the way you want it!

With a high rating of 4.1 stars, it can grill just as awesome as its counterpart in a Weber line for almost half the price, which makes it one of the best gas grills on the list. You can save an extra 200 bucks and use it for something else like buying MORE meat. Best $500 budget: Weber Spirit II E-310

Moving up to the mid-price range of grills will open up a lot more exciting grills waiting for you. You’ll be psych to know that you can finally get to own a Weber as well! While there are other gas grills that may already have other nifty feature or extra burners, there’s no guarantee it can live for several years. Hence, you just might end up spending more on repairs or buying a new one again.

But if you want your $500 to go a long way, I suggest you to invest in a Weber instead! It’s pretty much a waste to not buy a Weber when you finally have a budget for it. After all, Weber is known for top-notch grills with quality parts and assembly. You have the assurance of their grills’ lifespan to last for 7-10 years or so.

At the start of 2018, Weber welcomes the year with a fresh facelift for their Spirit line. And with a $500 budget, you can buy the top model of their Spirit line, the Weber Spirit II E-310! While I honestly still prefer its older look with a close cabinet, the new version allows you choose a design from 4 color variants. Furthermore, the 2nd generation Spirit got feature upgrades you can look forward to.

The Spirit II E-310 is now equipped with the powerful GS4 grilling system which combines convenience and culinary chops into one. The GS4 is divided into 4 components. First, you have the infinity ignition for reliable sparks. While igniters are usually the first to break, you don’t have to worry about it since it is covered with 10 years warranty.

Then you have 3 efficient burners pumping out 30,000 BTUs on an expansive 529 total square inches of a cooking area! You get 424 sq. in. surface for your actual cooking and an additional 105 sq. in. of warming rack. It’s big enough to accommodate medium to large family without a sweat! While I find the burners to be not the most powerful, it’s still sufficient to get the grill very hot. It’s still capable to get a good sear on your steak. And getting it over 600 degrees is achievable, but just might need 5-10 minutes of preheating.

And since this is Weber we’re speaking, you’ll no longer miss out on experiencing the amazing prowess of its Flavorizer bar! The Flavorizer bars are classic to Weber and one of my favorite aspect of owning their grills. As for this Spirit, it’s bars are porcelain-enameled for durability and helps resist rust. They are in unique angles to catch drippings from the meat you’re grilling that will evaporate back and coat your food. This, in turn, will add that oh so satisfyingly smoky flavor we also crave for!

As for those drippings and grease that did not evaporate will be funneled away from the burners and down to its disposable drip tray. This helps prevent flare-ups and easier cleaning after use. So you can just enjoy the grill without having to deal with a messy cleanup. With that, the grease management completes its GS4 system.

The Spirit II E-310 promises durability with its porcelain-enameled lid and grates with stainless steel deflectors. Its cooking grates are pretty cool on its own as it’s reversible. You can get creative on how you want to cook your food. Although ideally, the grate’s thin side is for delicate food such as fish and shrimp. While the wider side creates thick and beautiful sear marks that help make your meat more flavorful.

When it comes to grilling, Spirit is proven to be a solid machine that will last for years. On the other hand, its convenient features make it even more appealing. You got the standards of 6 tool hooks and 2 metal side shelves for additional workspace. Its left side table can also fold down for extra room space and a perfect fit for small balconies. 4 heavy-duty casters to make wheeling the grill around a cakewalk. Then to make sure changing the tank is no trouble at all, you can now mount the gas tank on the outer side for easy access and replacement.

Finally, with the upgrade of the Spirit line, the II E-310 is now iGrill3 ready as well! You can now monitor the grill’s temperature and fuel level straight from your phone. It’s a separate accessory though, so you’ll have to buy it. But if you feel like saving up and pass up the iGrill3, you can still monitor how much fuel is left in the propane tank as it already has an easy-to-read fuel gauge located next to the gas tank. And as most gas grills these days, it also has a center-mounted thermometer for reading the temperature.

Although the Spirit II E-310 doesn’t have extra burners, it has extra cool features that make it more special than a simple entry-level grill. And backed with quality construction, the Spirit II E-310 can go a long way for your money’s worth. This awesome piece from Weber is an easy pick for the best gas grill under $500 and a fast winner in almost anybody’s book!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Weber Spirit II E-310’s Sizzling Features

  • Boasts the GS4 grilling system with improved infinity ignition, burners, porcelain-enameled Flavorizer Bars, and grease management system
  • Porcelain-enameled, cast iron cooking grates
  • 529 square inches of cooking space over three burners
    • 424 square inches of main grilling area
    • 105 square inches of warming rack
  • 30,000 BTU-per-hour input main burners with fuel gauge
  • Open cart design with six tool hooks and two large wheels

Best $1500 budget: Weber Genesis II LX S-340 Stainless Steel Gas Grill

Now closely approaching professional territory, I don’t think it gets any more serious than having a Weber. Weber easily takes the spot for being one of the best gas grills of today. When we talk about high-quality grills among aficionados, Weber is often the talk of the town and top of the mind brand. And if we’re speaking on buying a grill for a thousand dollar budget, you can’t go wrong in investing on a Weber. Imagine it being the “Apple” when it comes to grilling. Not only will your guests have a hard time looking away from it, but you’d actually have the bragging rights!

Weber offers 4 major lineups which are Spirit, Genesis, Summit and Weber Q. So, what’re the differences between them? To give you a quick overview: Weber Q is suitable for the outdoors. Spirit line, which I just mentioned, are entry-level grills that cater for small to medium family. Genesis, on the other hand, is tough for the everyday grind and can conquer large parties. Lastly, Summit is their premium line that offers the ultimate grilling experience! But with a thousand dollar budget, the Genesis series will be your best bet, especially for your everyday grilling!

Among the Genesis models, I liked the Genesis S-330 the best. It’s even my top choice for the best gas grills under $1000 until Weber updated their Genesis line. The new version of S-330 is now known as the Genesis II LX S-340 and available at below $1300. Everything about this grill screams that you mean business of being a pro without breaking the bank and that you’re probably about to drop the most delicious grilled dishes on the face of this planet. I personally use this as well and I love it to pieces!

Both the Weber Spirit II E-310 and Genesis II LX S-340 have 3 burners, so you may wonder, is the price difference between the two even worth it? If you’ll take a closer look, you’ll see that this Genesis is much superior due to its more powerful burners and better craftsmanship. Hence, the LX S-340 is a worthwhile investment despite the higher upfront cost.

With the new Genesis line, the LX S-340 also houses the GS4 Grilling system. But this one has a stronger heat capacity of 43,500 BTUs and a whopping total of 669 square inches of cooking area. The cooking surface itself is multileveled with 513 square inches of primary cooking area and 156 square inches of tuck-away warming rack space. That’s not all, you also get additional cooking space with its 12,000-BTU lidded side burner.

With a separate side burner, you can cook your secret BBQ sauce, sauté vegetables and prepare your perfect sides. It’s even powerful enough to quickly heat big pots! I bet this makes every enthusiast out there jump for joy and opens a lot of opportunities for those looking to experiment!

Boasting a fully stainless body, 3 stainless steel burners with individual electronic ignition system. It looks dashing with its full high-grade stainless steel body. Hence, it has tougher resistance against rust and elements for better longevity, and requires minimal care and more effective in holding heat at any temperature needed for your grills. The shelves, outer hood panel, door panels and burners use 304 stainless, while its grates and Flavorizer bars use 430 stainless steel. The Weber Genesis promises grill aficionados a great all-in-one grill that never fails to please for a long time and that’s very easy to maintain.

Adding to these impressive features, you’ve also got 7mm diameter stainless steel rod cooking grates and stainless steel Flavorizer bars which Weber proudly invented. The stainless steel cooking grates are durable, easy to clean and can retain heat evenly and make professional-looking sear marks. And with stainless steel heat deflectors included, these help to consistently distribute heat within the cooking surface, so you can totally maximize your cooking area as there would be no cold spots.

On the other hand, its unique Flavorizer bars are just damn cool. Once you get your hands on them, man, you’d want to keep having one for your future grills for real! It naturally adds more aromatic flavor to your food by catching drippings, marinades and juices from your meat that smoke and sizzle their way back up to the food to add the extra flavor.

Now die-hard charcoal grill fans can’t simply claim that all foods cooked in charcoal grills taste far better. Well, this has long been a debate between charcoal and gas grills which will take forever to conclude, so we’ll just discuss that some other time. Aside from taste, the Flavorizer bars can also direct unvaporized grease and drippings away from the burner tubes, down into the grease management system, thus preventing flare-ups tremendously and protect the burner tubes from clogging.

The stainless steel knobs are beautifully designed with round sturdy switches that make adjusting the flames easier. These knobs also light up to assist you on a nighttime grilling. There’s also a LED light on the lid handle that illuminates its entire cooking surface. This helps you properly see the color and doneness of your food. Furthermore, it can even turn off automatically when you close the lid to conserve energy.  With these functional designs, you can enjoy the best barbecue experience at any time of the day!

The stainless steel side tables serve as extra workstations for you. Although you can fold down the left side table when you just need more room space instead. There are also 3 hooks on the left side table, perfect for hanging your tools and utensils! Mobility is never simpler with 2 heavy-duty lockable, swivel caster wheels and 2 bigger wheels to better withstand all-weather conditions.

For precision frills, it is also iGrill3 ready or just refer to its center-mounted thermometer so you can follow even the strictest grilling recipes. Its LED fuel gauge is still as helpful as ever in keeping track of your fuel tank level. Thus, preventing you from running out of fuel while in the middle of barbecue parties!

You just can’t argue with its superior build quality and flawlessly thoughtful details that went into this creation. So despite the heftier price tag, the Weber Genesis II LX S-340 actually provides great value for your money as it can last for years! And with a stellar rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars serving as your proof, it is still by far one of the best gas grills in features and world-class design.
