Weber Genesis II E-210 Liquid Propane Grill

There’s nothing like a well-established brand that’s been creating quality products for years upon years. In the grilling world, one of those brands is definitely Weber. This brand goes back to as far as 60 years when a man named George Stephen invented the world’s first kettle grill in 1952. It has since then evolved into the household name we’ve all come to know – Weber. According to the brand, a grill is not just a grill; it is a focal point for unforgettable experiences. With a company vision like that, I’m not at all surprised they’re one of the leaders in the industry. And to have their work lead our grilling activities, we sure are up for lots of epic moments to come in our lives!

Weber has several gas grill series, but for the budget at hand, it’d be a waste not to invest on a Genesis. While sure, for 500 bucks, you can already own a Weber with its Spirit series. However, Genesis models have higher stainless steel quality construction and equipped with more innovative designs. So once you get your hands on a Genesis, you’ll notice the real differences in built and what’s under the hood. Pun intended! Weber proves to you that what’s on the inside is more important. Because after you get past the gorgeous stainless steel build, you’ve also got a grill that packs quite a punch!

I have to tell you guys that it’s been quite a joy to behold and use the Weber Genesis II E-210 Liquid Propane Grill. I’ve mentioned that the stainless steel body is so nice to look at but the features and design make it a winner in my book. First, let’s talk about Weber’s pride and signature GS4 Grilling System. This feature is based on over 30 years of grilling experience, culinary expertise, and most importantly, Weber knows how to listen to their customers. The GS4 system promises burners that ignite every time without fail, smoke infused food that grills perfectly consistent and easy cleanup. Their target is to minimize your time around the grill and more time with the people you love!

So what is it exactly that makes up the GS4 Grilling System? In a nutshell, the GS4 Grilling System is made of 4 components which are the electronic ignition, the high-powered burners, Flavorizer bars and grease management. You can be sure that each grilling experience with the Genesis II E210 is hassle-free, reliable and most importantly, amazingly FUN.

Its Infinity Ignition system doesn’t only come with a generous warranty, but also promises a guaranteed ignition every time. Then you have their beautiful tapered shape of the burner tubes. They’re not only nice to look at but also performs superbly. The 2 stainless steel burners promise consistent gas flow from front to back and produce high heat efficiently. Hence, they ensure your grill to distribute heat evenly. To a point where you can place the food anywhere on the cooking grate, yet, they’ll still have a deep sear, flavor and stunningly beautiful sear marks you can boast.

Speaking of flavors, the porcelain enameled Flavorizer Bars have got to be my favorite of the features. What they do is catch juice drippings, turn them into smoke then coat the food which add to the smoky, grilled flavor we love. Even the smell of your grilled meat becomes more heavenly, mouth-watering. That’s the real barbecue flavour for me. The ability to create smoky flavor makes this Weber functions quite similar to charcoal grills, but without the tedious task of cleaning up the ashes and its toxicity.

While the drippings they don’t manage to catch and vaporize are sorted out into the grease management system for quick cleanup later! So thanks to its grease management system, cleaning up of grease is a lot easier and stress-free while reducing the risk of sudden flare-ups. Once you’re done grilling, you can take out the disposable drip tray located within the catch pan under the cookbox. Then just replace the drip tray as needed! Cleaning has never been this easy peasy, mate!

Aside from the grilling gear itself, the body of the Genesis II E-210 also has a lot for you to be happy about. First, the porcelain-enameled, cast iron cooking grates is reversible to match whatever you want to cook. The thin side of the grate is more suited towards cooking delicate food such as fish and shrimp. On the other hand, the wide side can create gorgeous sear marks that can enhance the flavor of your food. It’s also good to know that there’s a porcelain coat, which is better in preventing rust compared to just bare iron grates.

The cooking surface itself is about 380 square inches of cooking space with 114 square inches of tuck-away warming rack overhead. The Tuck-Away Warming Rack can keep your food warm or toast burger buns which folds out when not in use. I especially appreciate this since a lot gas grills out there require you to completely remove the warming rack when you don’t want to use it and it’s just such a hassle to put away.

However, I can’t really say this particular model is suited for throwing parties for your neighborhood. I think I’d have a pretty hard time serving a fleet with this particular grill. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good barbecue party with the Genesis II E-210. Having frequent intimate gatherings will do just fine. So while the surface is pretty much just suited for smaller servings, it’s still reasonably decent for the size. You can even fit a small turkey there, perfect for Thanksgiving! Plus, the Genesis II E-210 produces a 26,000 BTU per hour input which is more than capable enough for a gas grill this size. Even in colder weather, you won’t have any problem heating this up to 500 degrees. The heat spreads and maintains evenly and consistently which makes for some equally consistent quality food.

The Weber Genesis II E-210 sports an open cart design that not only makes the grill more mobile, but also provides you with a ton of extra storage space while you cook. You can just hang your tools and utensils on the side tables with integrated tool hooks! The side tables are also made with stainless steel and the left side can be folded so it won’t get in the way when not in use. I’ve personally find the tables and hooks handy because I usually have to put the seasoning, plates and utensils at a completely separate table when I grill but now, they’re all within arm’s reach! The Genesis II makes sure that everything you need is easily accessible.

Weber has recently came up with an innovative and sleek feature called the iGrill3. And apparently, the Genesis II models are compatible with it! So, what’s an iGrill3 in the first place? It’s basically a Bluetooth accessory that can be attached to the grill and helps you wirelessly monitor your grill’s real time temperature and fuel level on your mobile devices! You just have to download the Weber iGrill app and connect it to iGrill then voila! So nifty, right? Unfortunately, it’s sold separately though.

Once you’re done with your grilling, the E-210’s compact frame measures 26 x 33 x 32 inches. It’s about the same size as a small prepping table. You can pretty much store it anywhere or keep it at a convenient space. So far, in my experience with the Genesis II, I haven’t had any major setbacks and just expect to have so much fun grilling.

Compared to other gas grills though, the Genesis II can seem a bit pricey, but its quality and performance clearly speaks for itself. And no matter how high quality your meat and ingredients are, if your grill is not at par in quality and cooking performance then all may go to waste. Charred on the outside and raw on the inside plainly tastes terrible! But we don’t have to worry about that. Because Clearly, Weber Genesis II E-210 is also a master of the grilling scene and knows how to make savory barbecues.

If I were to sum up the E-210, I’d say it is the perfect grill for small to medium families. It’s compact but packs a knockout punch with all its advanced features while still remains to be quite easy to use whether you’re a curious yuppie or a 75-year old grandma. You’ll find that the controls feel familiar and it doesn’t take much to adjust to the new grill.

Best of all, don’t you just love it when you can enjoy the convenience of a gas grill and the smoky flavor charcoal grill can bring in one package? Hells yeah! You can have the best of both worlds with Weber. Pretty much why we love them so much and why they offer their grills on a premium. So now that you’re in the market for the best gas grill under 500 bucks, you might want to pick this one up. Why spend hundreds on one-time meal or cheap grills that just keep breaking every so often, when you can invest on a deluxe grill like the Genesis II E-210 that can lasts for many long years!

Additional note: In case you have more cash to spare, the Genesis series has so many options for you to choose from. The higher the model number usually means higher heat and capacity it has to cook. Though it also means heftier price tag. The largest one in the series is more suitable for people who constantly like to have barbecues and cater to bigger groups.

Weber Spirit E-310 Gas Grill

Weber Genesis II E-210 has obviously set the bar high for our list of best gas grills under 500 dollar budget. Nothing seems to be a much worthier alternative other than another champ grill from Weber – the Weber Spirit E310. While staying true to my word, a Genesis series is definitely a better investment than a Spirit. However, the Spirit E310 is of higher model, which is basically the counterpart of Weber Genesis II E-310. But seeing how the Genesis II E-310 is already beyond our budget, the Spirit E310 makes up a wise alternative and give a good run for your money as well.

With Weber Spirit E310, you actually get an upgrade from Genesis II E-210’s basic grill features but with slightly lower grade material than the Genesis. The E310 is better suited to you if you’re in need of bigger capacity, especially since you’re now getting 3 powerful burners that can produce a total of 32,000 BTU per hour input of steady heat. It also performs flawlessly that can get hot as high as more than 600 degrees. So getting that proper sear in the meat won’t be a hitch!

You also get a larger cooking space capacity of 424 square inches with additional 105 square inches for warming, from the total grill dimension of 32 x 52 x 63 inches. The additional size is totes helpful for throwing a kickass barbecue party. The difference in size lets you easily feed extra two heads or so, without making them wait too long to get their share of barbecues. After all, a full stomach makes everyone’s heart happy! Standing on a smooth-rolling casters makes it also mobile at a weight of 130 pounds, yet, very steady to hold your backyard grilling as often as you want.

The Weber Spirit E310 also has Weber’s smart grilling system and our beloved Flavorizer bars that smoke and sizzle whenever the meat juice drips down. You can still enjoy that smoked flavor in every bite! You can also have all the fun grilling with the Spirit and not worry about cleaning up a big mess after since it also got a grease management system. Wherein unvaporized juice funnels down to its angled grease tray and disposable catch pan. They’re safely located at a safe distance beneath the cookbox away from the burner tubes to prevent the grease from catching fire. Gotta put our safety first, right?!

Weber Spirit E310 promises to serve you for a long time. After all, they’re built with quality materials that can withstand regular wear and tear and resist rust. Spirit E310’s cooking grates are made with porcelain-enameled steel, stainless steel, and porcelain-enameled cast iron for easy clean-up, durability, superior heat retention for impressive searing.

While its cookbox is made with cast aluminum that helps efficiently withstand any heat needed to cook your food. Its shroud is also carefully designed to allow proper circulation and even distribution of heat around your food whether you’re using direct or indirect heat. And since the shroud is also composed of porcelain-enameled steel, you won’t have to worry about having any painting fading and peeling off your grill or even rusting! Once again, Weber proves they’re not only known for creating pretty grills. They obviously know how to smartly design every nook and cranny of a grill with a purpose to maximize your grilling experience.

Spirit E310 uses an electronic ignition system that can light your grill with just a push of a button. Weber also provided six hooks on the sides to keeping your grilling needs within reach. Although you cannot use your phone to check the temperature of the grill, you can still check it using its center-mounted thermometer. Better yet, just get yourself a meat thermometer for better accuracy.

While the Weber Spirit E310 is undoubtedly well-constructed from quality materials, they’re honestly still of lower grade than a Genesis model. You also can’t expect it to completely not get rusted. Although they are going to live longer than average grills, you still have to properly take care of it. The good thing, on the other hand, is they’re more convenient to clean and requires minimal maintenance. Furthermore, you get to save extra 50 bucks for choosing the Spirit over Genesis. And for the same 500 dollar budget, you’re getting a slightly bigger Weber gas grill with more capacity for excellent grilling sessions. It’s guaranteed money well spent for the best gas grills under 500 bucks!

Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grills, 5 Burners

To complete my top three list of the best gas grills under 500 dollars is a product that is made by another leading manufacturing company of fire and heat related products, including gas grill – the GHP Group. They just so happen to be the bright minds behind Dyna-Glo grills, which are making rounds and buzzes in the market recently. They may not be as upscale as Weber, but you SERIOUSLY shouldn’t shrug off their Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium grill that easily. For the same budget, you’d be surprise to see what this has in store for you!

Speaking for Dyna-Glo’s 5 burner variant of the Black & Stainless Steel Premium series, this is unquestionably a beast to behold! Well, starting off with the obvious, this one is a large-sized grill with a dimension of 56.7 x 24.6 x 46.3 inches and weighs at 128.3 pounds. It’s clearly gonna be heavy; but thankfully this one’s got a four heavy-duty, multi-directional casters that can help you move it around with ease. While two of its casters are lockable to make sure your grill stays in place.

Now time to get our geeks on. The Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Steel Premium grill comes out strong with the ability to produce a total scorching heat of 79,000 BTUs! Pretty sick, eh, don’t you think? That intense heat doesn’t come from just one source. It’s a combined cooking power from its 5 commercial grade straight tube burners producing 11,000 BTUs each, a 12,000 BTUs producing side burner and a rotisserie burner with a capacity of 12,000 BTUs. And yes, I’m not playing tricks on you. This one really has a rotisserie burner which is just freaking awesome!

The Dyna-Glo is equipped with various burners at your arsenal, offering you various cooking options to your delightment. You’ll absolutely get that grilling experience you’ve been dreaming of. The Dyna Glo 5 burner premium grill has a stainless steel warming rack. Then take advantage of its powerful burners that can produce 55,000 BTUs of fire power, so it’s no surprise that this can get extremely hot and fast. Time to sear that steak over a high heat or grill those baby back ribs to be perfectly tender.

At the same time, you can use its stainless steel side burner to cook the sidings and sauces regardless of its required temperature as it has controllable heat range. You can also close it for extra work space when not in use. And best of all, you’ll have more reasons to thank for Thanksgiving since you can now roast food with this grill as well. This unit can work well with most 35 inch universal rotisserie kits for slow, even roasting. Unfortunately, you’ll have to buy your own rotisserie kits for it.

The taste of your grilled food is also well considered and taken care by the Dyna-Glo. To compensate for the absence of Flavorizer bars, Dyna-Glo has their own stainless steel heat tents. These tents also add flavor to your food by vaporizing meat’s natural juices. At the same time, they also work to protect its burners and help distribute heat equally across its cooking surface. Admittedly, these heat tents are not at par with the quality of those Flavorizer bars and can get rusted for over a year or two of frequent use. Nevertheless, it’s still reassuring to know that the taste and grilling experience are not compromised.

Another great thing with having a large grill is getting a large cooking area. In fact, the Dyna-Glo offers a whopping 794 square inches of cooking space. It’d be a good time for you to throw that awesome barbecue party and be the talk of the town for a year! Because with that size, you can pretty much invite your close neighbors or whole extended family since it can easily serve to more than 10 pax at the same time.

Like most gas grills, Dyno-Glo also has an Electro pulse ignition for quick startup with a simple push. There’s also a built-in thermostat to regulate temperature inside the double-walled hood. And just like how most grills also work, igniters and thermostat aren’t the most reliable. Electronic igniters tend to break the quickest and having your own meat thermometer still gives the most accurate measurement of temperature.

Its grates are made with stainless steel rod for even heat distribution, and is an ideal finish to achieve those lovely sears in every grill. The grates are very easy to clean and maintain as well. Speaking of maintenance, you can also purchase a custom fit Dyna-Glo premium cover to protect your grill from the elements.

While I find the Dyna-Glo to be well-built with good set of materials, stainless steels even, it’s still at risk of getting rusted. Some of its parts are compromised in order to lower its price. So don’t expect to be able to keep this around for 10 or more years, that will already be quite a stretch. Nonetheless, you can still get a good long run with it for several seasons or about 3-5 years. Just make sure to properly handle and maintain the grill by keeping it clean and dry after every use.

The Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grill is available to run with fuels of either liquid profane (LP) or natural gas. So before you jump right into buying it, you may also want to consider investing on its natural gas grill variant for just a few bucks above the $500 mark. Honestly, I find it wiser to invest on a natural gas grill if you have the opportunity since it has lots of benefits. And if you really think about it, the difference in price between LP and natural gas variant won’t even make a big dent on your bank account. You can even save more with natural gas as fuel in the long run. But that all depends on your preference and whether natural gas line is already available in your area.

For the same price, or could be even 50 bucks less, you can get yourself a monster gas grill with more functionality to play with! While it’s true that the Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grill won’t probably lasts as long nor even longer than a Weber, it clearly has plenty of features to offer for price. You get a primary cooking setup, a side burner and rotisserie burner, all in one package. You can do so much with this monster, which makes it a bang for the buck and a big contender for the best gas grills under 500 dollars!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grill’s Sizzling Features

  • 5 Stainless steel commercial grade straight tube burners produce 55,000 BTUs
  • Has a side burner and a rotisserie burner with heat capacity of 12,000 BTUs each
  • Electronic ignition and infinite setting control valves power a total of 764 sq. Inch of cooking space
  • 3 pc heavy gauge, 7 mm stainless steel cooking grates and stainless steel warming rack included
  • 5 stainless steel heat tents found under a double wall lid add flavor to food

Weber Spirit E210 Liquid Propane Gas Grill

First on my list is the Weber Spirit E210 Liquid Propane Gas Grill. While Weber E210 is understandably not the biggest in the bunch, it’s still undeniably worth your attention! Simply carrying a reputable name, Weber, already says a lot. The Spirit E210 is Weber’s entry gas grill that promises to deliver the same quality and superb experience just like any of their other gas grills. Hence, this is a good opportunity for you to actually own your first Weber without breaking the bank and experience Weber’s performance first hand.

Weber promises quality grills since they’re made with sturdy and durable materials. The E210’s cookboxes are made of cast aluminium for toughness and better resistance against heat, no matter how hot your grill needs to be. Not to mention, they also require minimal care and maintenance so it’s a lot easier to keep them clean for longevity. While its burners are made with high-grade stainless steels for better resistance against rust and burn-through. Hence, Weber E210 guarantees your safety and solid built to serve your grilling hobby for years!

Every grill is not yet assembled when purchased, but this one’s very handy, quick and easy to put together. Its assembled dimensions with the lid open is 63 x 60 x 32 Inches. Given its size, it is indeed space-saving and perfect for smaller patios and balconies. Nevertheless, you can also still barbecue plenty of steak pieces or a rack of ribs on a spacious cooking surface of 450 square inches. It’s composed of 360 square inches of primary cooking area and 90 inches of warming rack. It’s more than capable to serve up to 6 pax at the same time. So, you can expect to grill as many barbecue as you want and be assured that everyone leaves the party on a full stomach.

Grilling on this Weber makes every cookout enjoyable that will let you get over your old cheaper grill quickly. The Weber E210 has an Electronic Crossover ignition system that easily lights up its two burners with a push of the igniter button. Needless to say, it’s easy to use and way safer! The E210 provides 26,500 British Thermal Unit (BTU) per hour input. That’s already a lot of heat to whip up your delicious barbecues. And to make it more interesting, Weber has their very own porcelain-enameled Flavorizer bars!

So what’s up with Flavorizer bars, you say? Let me just say, they make wonders to your grilled meals! Hey, just hear me out first. I’m not exaggerating here, mate. Flavorizer bars are really effective in adding more smoky and flavorful taste. The bars achieve it by catching the juice drippings from the meat, then let the drippings vaporize back and coat the meat. Adding that extra oomph to taste!

Weber E210’s cooking grates are made with three exceptional materials which are porcelain-enameled steel, stainless steel, and porcelain-enameled cast iron. Each has different characteristics that you would look for in a grate, but all retains heat evenly. Porcelain-enameled steel cooking grates don’t wear off easily. While stainless steel rod cooking grates make beautiful sear marks we always crave for. Lastly, the porcelain-enameled cast-iron has superior heat retention. And did I mention that all the grates are very easy to clean?

Additional features for this handsome grill are center-mounted thermometer, an enclosed cart, and a porcelain-enameled shroud. It also offers six tool hooks, two heavy-duty front-locking casters, and two heavy-duty back swivel casters. A 20-pound LP tank is needed to power up this baby. So, don’t forget to stock up on its fuel before the big event. The Weber gas grill’s user-friendly fuel gauge will be your guide on fuel consumption. Sounds cool, eh.

You can expand your working area instantly thanks to its foldable stainless side tables. When not in use, fold them down so it won’t take up too much space and convenient storage. That’s even more reason why Weber Spirit E210 Gas Grill is highly recommended for smaller backyards or simply because you have space issues.

Bottom line here is that the Weber Spirit E210 is the only full-standing Weber that you can buy below 400 bucks. And although you can actually buy a 2 burner grill at a lower price, they won’t come close to the quality and innovative performance of a Weber. On the other hand, if you want a natural gas grill or a grill with more than 2 burners, you can still choose from other Weber’s Spirit line. However, that would set you back for another 50 to hundred bucks, more or less.

In all honesty, Weber Spirit E210 is not just buying a machine that can cook. You’re bringing home a Champ! There’s a touch of excellence in grilling and quality built that without a doubt could last you for many seasons to come. For that, I find it easy to be my top picks for the best gas grills under 400 dollars.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Weber Spirit E210 Gas Grill’s Sizzling Features

  • Two stainless steel burners produces 26,500 BTU-per-hour

  • Has Porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates and porcelain-enameled Flavorizer bars
  • easily sparks with its electronic crossover ignition system
  • Includes: fuel gauge, 6 tool hooks, mounted thermometer and Limited warranty

Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grills

Next on my list of best gas grills under 400 bucks is Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Gas Grill. Although Dyna-Glo may not always be a top-of-mind brand, I still find most of their works as my personal favorite. They have a good grasp on producing above average grills at low cost. So, it’s always worth taking time to check on their items. And as far as your $400 goes, it can already go a long way with their Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grill.

So, let’s jump in to the nitty-gritty of the machine, shall we?! First of all, you’ll appreciate its large cooking area of 667 square inches. It’s almost twice the size of Weber E210. This means bigger party and more meats on the grate! However, unlike Weber E210 its side tables are fixed and cannot be folded. While on the plus side, you get yourself a handy side burner that can produce up to 12,000 BTU per hour. Pretty slick if you ask me.

The side burner comes with flush mounted cover and variable heat range for your foods and sauces that require high or low temperatures. Best for your side dishes and veggies. So now you can cook them at your convenience or just close its cover for an extra work space when not in use.  All I could say is that this grill extension is totally a haul! Does your old grill has this? None I suppose.

The Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grills have 4 commercial grade stainless steel burners to accommodate your desired cooking power heat. Speaking of heat, each burners can produce 12,000 BTU’s each. So expect this baby to get absolutely HOT, and fast. You’ll definitely have a blast deep searing your meat and see those appealing sear marks on them. These perfect sear marks will make your steak even more mouth-watering! Oh, just the thought of it is making my stomach grumble. Now I’m craving for a steak as well.

Now, for other cool stuff you’ll get on board with this baby is the usual electronic ignition which, is very safe and convenient to use. You’ll also get 2 pieces of heavy gauge 7 mm enameled cast iron cooking grates, an enameled steel warming rack, and 4 porcelain-enameled steel heat tents under a double wall lid. The heat tents aren’t there just to make it look pretty though. They help protect the burners, distribute heat evenly across the cooking area and vaporize food’s natural juices to add that extra kick in flavor. Moreover, it does an awesome job for indirect grilling.

Fun facts: its double wall liner actually retains heat efficiently, thus greatly improves the grill’s cooking performance. While enamel-coated cast iron or enamel-coated steel are closely comparable to a stainless steel. Although they aren’t tougher than stainless steel, enamel has non-stick and some non-rusting characteristics similar to stainless steels. Dyna-Glo’s two-door cabinet is intended for propane storage and installation. It also includes 4 heavy-duty casters for faster mobility, and an integrated temperature gauge found on the lid as well.

The best part about the Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium grill is the availability of its natural gas variant, which is highly commendable. Since I’m an advocate of the natural gas, I personally like using natural gas fueled machines for they’re loaded with benefits to us and the environment. And since natural gas is less expensive than LP gas, Dyna-Glo grills will help you save up more in the long run. If you’re thinking of what I’m thinking, that also means more weekend and summer grilling parties, yay! Seriously though, natural gas grills have impressive benefits that will also make you proud to use one. But if natural gas would not be viable in your place, then profane would be the best option since it’s always readily available in the market. Regardless of your choice, the Dyna-Glo premium grill is flexible and accommodating should you choose profane over natural, or vice versa.

The only issue I encountered that some people find the interior to start rusting after 2 to 3 years of use. It can be an isolated case but it is still a risk to take. Nevertheless, rusting can be delayed, if not prevented, with proper maintenance. So make sure to properly and regularly clean your machine.

Other than that, this won’t give you any further headaches. It has normal assembly since the instruction manual is as easy as your ABC. If you’re not a tool savvy though, you can opt to have experts assemble the grill to save you the hassle and make most of your time. The only down side is you have to cough up extra bucks for the service. Either way, it’s all up to you. In the end, you get a full-standing and feature-packed grill that gives a bang for your $400 bucks.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Dyna-Glo Black & Stainless Premium Grill’s Sizzling Features

  • 4 Stainless steel commercial grade straight tube burners and side burner
  • Each burner produces 12,000 BTU’s for a total of 60,000 BTU’s of cooking power heat
  • Has a total of 667 sq. inch of cooking space
  • 2 pc heavy gauge 7 mm enameled cast iron cooking grates, enameled steel warming rack and 4 enameled steel heat tents under a double wall lid

  • Integrated temperature gauge for accurate grill zone temperature measurement
  • With electronic ignition and infinite setting control valves

Char-Broil Performance 6-Burner Gas Grill

Lastly, but certainly not the least, is Char-Broil Performance 6-Burner Gas Grill. In all fairness, there’s a common perception on Char-Broil producing cheap grills. While it doesn’t always translate to cheap quality products, their works are mostly affordable. Still, you have to be extra careful in buying a Char-Broil as there are few that failed to hit the mark. But in recent years, I can honestly say that I’ve been seeing leaps of improvements on their works, where quality is not being completely compromised for price. A good example is the Char-Broil Performance, wherein its lower counterpart is also featured on best gas grills under $200. This time, we’re putting the spot on its Char-Broil Performance’s 6-burner variant.

It could take up to 2 hours to assemble this thing, but instructions are pretty clear. Once assembled, you’ll notice that it’s actually the biggest on the list with dimensions of 47.523 by 65.5 by 23 inches. This monster of a grill houses 6 burners, so a strong heat production can be expected from it. A total of 60,000 BTU’s, in fact, with 10,000 BTU’s from its lidded side burner. Surprisingly though, it only has the same power as the Dyna-Glo and smaller cooking area of 650 square inches, which is still wide by the way, despite being bigger and more burners present. On the upside, the Performance actually do perform slightly better in terms of heat efficiency for the size. And since it has a knob for each burner, you also get better control on its fire and your cooking preference.

Its primary cooking space has porcelain-coated cast iron grates, while you also get an additional of 280 square inches of porcelain-coated swing-away rack. Same with the aforementioned gas grills, Char-Broil Performance uses an electronic igniter to light up. Its large metal side shelves allow ample working space for you. While its double-door cabinet provides storage space for your tools and easy access for the grill’s propane tank.

It’s also good to know that Char-Broil didn’t skimp out on quality too much just to make a 6-burner grill affordable. Char-Broil Performance has Stainless steel parts on right places to ensure durability and longevity against rust. Its 6 top-ported burners inside, 2 cabinet doors, grill lid, UFC and fascia are all constructed with stainless steel. And despite being sturdy, it’s pretty easy to move around the backyard thanks to its 4 wheel casters.

While Weber has their Flavorizer bars to boast, Char-Broil Performance also has nifty tricks up in their sleeves. In fact, Char-Broil houses a convective cooking system that helps achieve even heat distribution and reduces flare-ups simply by closing the lid. Plus, it does an amazing job on indirect grilling. I think that was simply genius to apply science in your grilling sessions. I can’t deny I was pretty impressed and kinda amazed when I learned about it too.

Let’s now move on to some issues others found with Char-Broil Performance 6-Burner Gas Grill. Assembling this thing can spell quite a disaster to some. It may take several hours to put this together and few others even found some parts dented. But once you successfully put it together, people find themselves very well satisfied with what Performance can do, especially for the its price.

From afar, you can already see a monster grill standing on your backyard with its dapper finishing and 6 burners heating up the place. While the Char-Broil Performance don’t have lots of fancy feature displays, it can still closely do the same tricks. Everything you need for a gas grill is surely covered. Yet at the same time, you can also cook for larger crowd, making this as one of the best gas grills under 400 dollars as well.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Char-Broil Performance Grill’s Sizzling Features

  • 6 Burners produce 60,000 BTU’s with 10,000 BTU’s lidded side burner
  • 650 sq. in. of primary cooking on porcelain-coated cast iron grates plus 280 sq. in. of secondary cooking on porcelain-coated swing-away rack
  • Stainless steel lid, handle, control panel fascia and cabinet provide style and durability.
  • Large metal side shelves offer added prep and work space.
  • Electronic ignition for fast and reliable startups.
  • Cabinet has two doors for easy access to storage area
  • Removable grease pan for quick and simple cleaning.

Best Gas Grills under 300 | Cheap Grills Built to Last

Whatever seasons come and go, one thing we, Americans, will definitely never get tired of – having a good old fashioned barbecue! Whether it’s in your very own backyards or quaint balconies of your apartments, it’s pretty awesome how much experience and memories we can get from a well-cooked homemade burger or steak. In fact, the best times we had with our loved ones are those shared over delectable grilled treats! Looking back, most epic moments come from my happy childhood memories of big family barbecues, or hazy summer parties with friends. It just goes to show how grilling is more than just cooking a piece of meat. It’s a bonding experience that becomes a huge part of our lives. There’s no better way to enjoy grilling, but through savoring mouth-watering dishes together with all of your peers, all made possible by having the best gas grills under 300 bucks!

First of all, let’s get one thing clear. In this price range, you won’t get all the bells and whistles of what a gas grill can do. Because features like built-in rotisseries or separate searing station are usually present among beast machines worth $1000 and above price point. While specs like these are really cool, it certainly doesn’t affect your daily cooking needs. So what can you get from a $300 budget? You get a freaking awesome grill with all the must-have features such as high heat power, bigger cooking capability and best of all, solid built.

If you’ll notice, grills in this price range are made with better materials with fuller body, as opposed to the cart-style built we often see among $100 and $200 price range. Manufacturers at this point, aren’t really pressured to find the most budget friendly materials and construction methods to achieve a really affordable gas grill. In other words, with 300 dollar gas grills, designers are given a lot more wiggle room to create well-featured gas grills that are pretty much made to last. You, on the other hand, get to throw bigger parties, enjoy better grilling experience and show off your cooking prowess while still keeping your wallet happy.

With $300 budget, you can surely get yourself a spanking new unit that could last several grilling seasons. However, shopping today becomes a lot trickier due to overwhelming choices. Plus, there are still manufacturers that skimp out on quality over price. So unfortunately, there’s still a good chance that a lot of us could end up getting confused and buy the wrong thing.

But hey, no worries! My guide today hopes to fix this common consumer conundrum in finding the best gas grills under 300 dollars. Even I had quite a hard time narrowing down the list that I ended up with 4 choices. Nevertheless, they have their own characteristics that makes them attractive for a specific need. I’m sure you’ll also find your grilling fix among them!

Weber Q2200 Liquid Propane Gas Grill

I’m kicking off the reviews with one of the most reputable brands in the grilling scene, Weber. Owning a Weber truly makes you feel like you’re a step closer to becoming a renowned grill master! The key word there is “feel”. But seriously though, it’s rare to see a Weber with cheap price tag. Most of the time, you’ll have to shell out more money just to own one. Hence, you have to be more seriously committed into grilling to spend that much. So, owning a Weber for just under 250 bucks surely sounds a sweet deal to me.

However, what we have here is not a full-sized grill, but actually a portable type. I would recommend this to those living in the city, who don’t have enough space or who aren’t allowed to accommodate large grills at home. And if you enjoy having barbecues at the park, then the more you’ll also love having one of these. I’m talking about the Weber Q2200. It’s incredibly compact and perfect to place on any kitchen counter.

The Weber Q2200 is perfect for feeding a family or a small, intimate gathering. And despite its small physique, the Weber Q2200 Liquid Propane Grill can definitely perform to please even the most fussy grillers. Its one stainless steel burner produces 12,000 BTU’s of heat across its respectable 280 square inches of cooking area. That’s more than enough to cook 8 quarter pound burgers in one go.

Honestly for me though, its heat efficiency is a little low for the size. So, getting it hot up to 500-550 degrees may take a bit longer to achieve, still doable though. You might just have to preheat this thing for about 10-15 minutes and there you go! While heating it up over 300 degrees is pretty fast and easy-peasy. You can still have your favorite steaks and burgers perfectly seared inside. You can taste the flavor and feel its juiciness on every bite, aww, just so good! On the other hand, its lower BTU Rating means the Weber Q2200 consumes lesser fuel. Your gas canisters won’t quickly run out, and so is the life of your party!

Its porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates give you a durable cooking surface that evenly distributes heat. While the cast aluminum lid and body is perfectly lightweight but resistant to the elements to keep it portable at 42 pounds and durable at the same time! The only down side though, aluminum doesn’t retain heat as effective as cast iron. Weber had to compromise a bit for lighter frame. But hey, it’s not a big downer, really. Just make sure to shut the lid quickly every time you flip or rotate your food so the heat won’t get out and keep the temperature still. Oh and by the way, it also has tall a lid, so it’s cool as you don’t have to stick with just grilling boring hotdogs and stuff. You can up the game and grill small roasts and birds.

Once you buy the Q2200, the best part is that it comes completely assembled right out of the box. No more darn headaches, mate, you can go straight to grilling! There’s an easy-start electronic ignition that promises you a quick start-up with every push. It also has infinite control burner valve settings for surefire personal grilling experience. You also get 2 fixed handy side shelves for storing your plates, sauces, marinades, cooking utensils, and your meats.

Depending on your cooking needs, the Weber Q2200 has an interchangeable grate to give you the most ideal surface for your desired dish. You can easily replace the default grill with any of the Q2000 series compatible cooking grates that are sold separately. This gas grill runs on liquid propane cylinders but you can actually switch to a gas tank if you also purchase the additional accessory of an LP Adapter Hose. This definitely emphasizes that big things come in small packages like this.

And if you have more extra cash, you can also invest on the Weber 6557 Q Portable Cart, which is sold separately. The Weber Q2200 fits perfectly well on that cart, so it can stand on its own and makes moving it around the house a lot easier! While it’s all up to you whether to buy it or not in the future, the cart is a useful accessory for additional convenience. Buying them together, though, could also save you a bit more.  Nevertheless, the Weber Q2200 is a superb, portable piece on its own that can fire up your grilling game even without the cart.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Weber Q2200 Gas Grill’s Sizzling Features

  • One stainless steel burner produces 12,000 BTU-per-hour
  • 280 sq. in. total cooking area
  • Porcelain-enameled cast-iron cooking grates and cast aluminum lid and body
  • Fully assembled out of box
  • Easy-start electronic ignition and infinite control burner valve settings
  • Uses disposable 14.1 or 16.4 oz. LP cylinder (sold separately)

Fuego Element F21C Carbon Steel Gas Grill

Moving up to a slightly bigger in size and a free-standing grill, we got the Fuego Element F21C. First thing you’ll notice is its sleek and unique design. Doesn’t it look more like a rocket ship to you!? Kidding aside though, its futuristic vibe sure looks stunning. Well, here’s a fun fact for you! The Fuego Element was actually designed by former Apple Chief Designer Robert Brunner in California. It even won the Vesta’s Best Gas BBQ & Spark Design Award, so you can be sure you’re in good hands with this one. With all the big fuss on its design, it would seriously be cool to have piece of that. It will surely make an easy conversation starter for your party. Aside from killer looks though, Fuego also throws knock-out punches when it comes to features.

Fuego Element F21C is a compact gas grill with more mobility thanks to its sturdy base wheels. This is highly recommend to people who prefer bigger grill but live in homes with more limited space. The body only takes up a compact 21” by 21” footprint which allows for easy storage and takes only a little bit of space. And once you get you get your hands on this, putting it together is pretty quick and easy since it only has 14 screws to figure out. While for a really handy person, it could even take less than 30 minutes to assemble.

Now for the hotter topic. Fuego also doesn’t lack in the cooking power department. In fact, it produces a fire distribution rating of 21,000 BTU’s per hour burner system that’s suitable for 50 20-minute cooking cycles. It can also get to a temperature of 500F within 5 minutes and go up to a bit over 650F in full blast if you need it to. It, however, did fall a bit short in even cooking as there’s a cooler spot at the center of grill compared to its edge.

Regardless, we can easily turn around this sitch with a simple shifting technique. Start cooking your food thoroughly in the middle then finish them off with a good crisp and brown color by switching them to the edge of the grill. You can also use the colder spots like a warming rack but it’s more handy for an indirect cooking. Indirect cooking is actually one of the important skills you ought to learn to be a better grill master. Once you get the hang on its cold spots, you will eventually find it useful for your grilling.

This unit has its very own built-in lid thermometer to help you monitor its temperature. But you can’t beat having an actual meat thermometer for best accuracy. Fuego F21C also sports a snazzy 15-pound porcelain enamel cast iron grate, which is a solid material by the way. It has better heat retention and provides massive heat sink for those delicious looking sear marks. Despite the small footprint it takes up, the cooking surface itself is an admirable 346 square inches. That’s about an ideal size for cooking 12 quarter pounds or 4.5” diameter burgers.

To save you a lot of time when you want to grill, the Fuego Element F21C has push button electronic ignition for that instant startup. The gas tank fits so easily and seamlessly into the tank storage with a nifty hinged tank storage access door. After grilling, there’s an easy clean residue tray that you can pull out and clean up. Afterwards, you can just easily roll the F21C into its storage space. Best of all, if you already have a natural gas source installed, the Fuego can be readily converted to a natural gas grills. You’ll just have to specially order the conversion kit from the company and have them install it for you for your safety.

When they say there are always more than meets the eye, that appears to also be true for Fuego. It’s not just one heck of a stunning piece of machine, but it also packs quite the punch. The Fuego Element F21C has high heat power, large cooking surface and solid built. And while it comes in small package, it no doubt performs just as badass as other expensive larger grills. So it’s no surprise why we’ll bet our money on it for the best gas grills under 300 dollars.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Fuego Element F21C Gas Grill’s Sizzling Features

Dyna-Glo Smart Space Living Gas Grill

Another entry for a small gas grill category is the Dyna-Glo Smart Space Living. With its name alone, you can already tell this one also aims to be compact. While this is obviously bigger than the Fuego, I can promise you that every space it’s taking up on your lawn, deck or patio is all worth it!

Dyna-Glo clearly bumped up on size but that’s only because it’s putting on more muscles. The Smart Space Living now sports with 3 powerful burners producing 12,000 of BTU’s per hour each, for a total of 36,000 BTU’s of cooking power! That’s more than efficient heat to get the grill ridiculously hot and FAST. You can pretty much get this to 300F for less than a minute and could even go as high as over 650F for just under 10 minutes.

On the flip side, the Dyna-Glo is not far different from Fuego in terms of even heat distribution. Wherein the back of the grill is way hotter than its front. You really ought to give your grill a run to get a feel of your grill and look out for any colder spots. Nevertheless, it got 2 heavy gauge porcelain-enameled cast iron, cooking grates which has excellent heat retention. It can sear foods and lock in the natural juice pretty swell.

Oh, and by the way, its 3 burners are made with commercial grade stainless steel which is an awesome upgrade in quality for the price. To assist its burners, there are also another three steel heat tents that protect the burners and flavor foods. And when I say it’s putting on muscles, not only is it more powerful but there’s also a noticeably wider cooking surface of 503 square inches. You can probably cook about 18 burgers at once. Plus, you can throw bigger barbecue parties now with its larger cooking area. And since it doesn’t take too much space in your home, you can actually have more friends over as well.

Another good thing about having 3 separate burners, you have a control knob for each. Hence, its infinite control valve options provide flexibility and the best grilling performance and experience for you. When you’ve got a hankering for a delicious grilled meal, starting it up is as easy as ABC with the Easy-Push Electronic Pulse Ignition that ensures a quick start-up. How’s that for a customized personal grilling experience?

Dyna-Glo Smart Space Living’s cover lid is also made with double wall stainless steel to help with retaining heat. It also has a temperature gauge attached to it. Finally, for your convenience, there are gorgeous steel side shelves with integrated towel bar and tool hooks so everything is within your reach. When you don’t need the side shelves, you can easily fold them down to save on space and it also makes it a lot easier to store when not in use! Mobility won’t be a problem here too since it has 2 dependable wheels that support the legs.

For grill lovers who have limited space for the machine, the Dyna-Glo Smart Space Living is an option you can’t simply ignore. While it indeed has become slightly bigger than a Fuego, its upgrades in cooking finesse and capacity make it hard to resist. It can even pass out as a strong contender for any full-sized grills available out there, making this a great choice for the best gas grills under 300 bucks. It’s no-nonsense design makes great use of every space it takes up and packs every bit of a punch!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Dyna-Glo Smart Space Living Grill’s Sizzling Features

Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared 500 Gas Grill

Going into less-portable territory, the Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared is definitely a power player in the gas grill world. With its larger frame, this is a great gas grill to have if you have the space for it. You get to bring home a full-sized backyard grill with little extra features to level-up your game.

Despite the size though, you can still easily roll this away with its two sturdy caster wheels. Once you’re ready to start grilling, starting up is also a lot simpler like the rest with the Surefire Electronic ignition system that promises you reliable spark at every burner. You can easily tell when it’s ready for cooking with the handy-dandy temperature gauge built on the lid of the gas grill. In addition, this gorgeous gas grill also sports 3  powerful burners that are top-ported tube burners for lasting performance. Each has control knobs that provides more precise control over your grill’s hotness.

Now for the interesting part, you’ve got a really wide cooking surface of 500 square inches for your meats and other ingredients. While Char-Broil Performance is slightly smaller than the Dyna-Glo, you can hardly feel a big difference.  You can still easily throw a barbecue party for 5 to 7 of your peeps and grill about 18 quarter pound burgers at once! If that’s not enough, you also have an additional 180 square inches of porcelain coated swing-away rack to keep your food warm and the party going.

Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared can produce 27,000 BTU’s, which is a little low for the size. But there won’t ever be a problem thanks to its TRU Infrared Technology, which is simply the best. Its TRU Infrared Technology has loads of use and I’m telling you, this ain’t no gimmick, mate! For people who don’t enjoy getting hot and cold spots anywhere on their grills, TRU Infrared Technology effectively prevents that by spreading heat evenly across the grill top. Furthermore, it takes lesser time to get the grill hot, while uses lesser fuel as well! Hence, there will be less waiting time for the foods to get cooked. You also get to save extra cash from not using up the gas too quickly, then you can use it for MORE MEATS instead! Now doesn’t that sound a sweet bargain?

The TRU Infrared Technology also creates a barrier between food and flames so you can avoid heart attack-inducing flare-ups. With it, you get fewer accidents and just straight to the good stuff – eating a flavorful and mouth-watering rack of meats!

Another extra treat is its very convenient 10,000 BTU side burner for warming sauces or sautéing side dishes for your delicious barbecue meal. You also have an added work space. The Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared 500 has a fixed steel side-shelf so you can be sure to keep all your essentials near and at the ready.

The Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared deserves a big high-five for its splendid performance. While it’s rare to see a grill under 300 bucks to have an infrared technology, yet Char-Broil Performance casually proves that you can actually own one. Thus, this Char-Broil is truly a rare find and a bang for the bucks!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Char-Broil Performance TRU Infrared Gas Grill’s Sizzling Features

The Round-Up

You really can’t go wrong with all these gorgeous choices. I’ll say it again, the best gas grills under 300 dollars are especially reliable. You can be sure that you didn’t totally compromise quality for the price. You’ll be happier to see your 300-dollar grill all worn-out, than see a $1000 grill just catching dust because you’ve overspent your budget on the machine. So now you can’t afford to buy the meats for it or simply because you can’t bring yourself to get the expensive unit worn-down quickly. Regardless, a $300 budget can already get you a long way with a gas grill.

These grills assures you with tough materials to last for several seasons and can perform pretty well. So you can make no mistake with these as the best gas grill of your very own. But if you want to try looking around the web on your own first, you definitely have to consider a few factors on how to buy the right grill for you. Firstly, determine the space in your home for your grill. The last thing you want is getting a gas grill that’s just way too big for anywhere in your house. Determine the size that you need and think about the crowd you’re planning to feed. Will you be cooking for yourself, or have friends over frequently, or are you a big party person?

In addition, you want to think about the BTU rating of your gas grill. The BTU rating is the fire or heat distribution rating of your gas grill. It’s how hot your grill can become within a given amount of time. In conjunction with the BTU rating, you have to check if the material of your gas grill is durable enough to withstand the heat as well as the exterior elements it will have to deal with in your home. A lot of the grill newbies I know have encountered using powerful grills that are way too hot for the casing and it just ended up in a lot heartbreak.

Assembly is also pretty important to check. Some gas grills can have a really complex assembly manual that could probably lead you to setting up a fire hazard in your home. Or worse, you could never figure out how to assemble the darn thing. Fortunately though, Amazon now offers assembly service for a fee. If you are a handy person, then good for you! But if not, then it’ll be wiser to take on this offer to save yourself the trouble and time for setting it up. I mean, come on, who won’t be too excited to try the shiny, new unit and fire up the grill right away? Because I know I will!

Char-Broil Performance Gas Grills

Starting off this list with one of the fan favorites, especially when it comes to affordability. Seriously, even the biggest grill aficionados are head over heels with this gas grill by Char-Broil. So much as earning its very own bestseller status on any review website. Over the years, Char-Broil has been pretty consistent with producing great gas grills that suit every customer’s price range which is really cool. But enough about the introduction to this product and the brand, let’s get to the nitty-gritty, shall we?

The Performance Gas Grill sports 4 powerful burners that provides better control on your cooking. These burners produce 36,000 BTU’s of heat. In addition, it has a lidded side burner that produces 10,000 BTU’s. Now that’s totally more than enough firepower to satisfy even the most serious grillers. It has good heat efficiency to its grilling size, so it gets really hot! Hot enough for you to have all the steaks you want and anytime you crave for it. This Char-Broil Performance grill can sear mouth-watering steaks and even cook a 1″ thick cut to a perfect medium. This gas grill is particularly wider so you also have the option to cook with a partner or on your own. Some people don’t like others touching their machines, so it’s all up to you.

Added to all this firepower, you also got 475 square inches of primary cooking space. Plus, another 175 square inches of secondary cooking area that features a swing away porcelain coated grill. You can use this whenever needed and swing away when you just want to use the primary grilling area. The really wide cooking area makes this particular machine more suitable if you plan on feeding larger crowds. While the warming rack will make it easier for you to preheat the buns and cook the sides for your meat.

Since this one’s equipped with a lidded side burner, you have additional space to cook the sauce or even more sides for your dishes. While if unneeded, you can just close the lid to protect the burner and use it for additional prep space. It’s a lovely piece of work that can handle lots of stuff going on at the same time. Just make sure you’re also adept in multi-tasking so you don’t end up burning any of your food or sauces.

The lower cooking surface also sports the same porcelain coated grill. It is perfect for retaining heat without any breakage in the material. There are also large painted metal side shelves that are great for putting plates, cups, marinades, and even your tools. The lid, handles, control panel, and fascia are all of a stainless steel construction. So they’re not only stylish but also incredibly durable and low maintenance! Starting this gas grill is also a breeze with the electronic ignition system. This creates a reliable spark with every push. It’s a feature very popular among gas cooking appliances nowadays because of its convenience.

Speaking of convenience, this grill has cart-style built with 2 stationary legs for stability; and 2 7-inch wheels for mobility. You can easily wheel it around, while the legs will keep it in place when you’re done moving it. While starting is a breeze, I also love the hefty stainless steel knobs for adjusting the fire. They turn so smoothly but has enough resistance to ensure a more accurate cooking temperature.

The name says it all. Regardless of the price, you definitely be going home with an excellent performing gas grill. It has more functional features and neat upgrades that can cater for your larger families to enjoy. The price is just a sweet bonus! After all, other well-known brands could offer the same features for twice the price.  Hence, it provides great value for your money-making it as one of the best gas grills under 200 dollars. With all these fantastic features, you won’t wonder why everyone loves this grill.

Char-Griller 3001 Grillin Pro Gas Grill

Another great contender that could give a run for your money is from Char-Griller. Char-Griller 3001 Grillin’ Pro has been around for years. So, they really do are the pros in this price range to last this long. It also has the cart-style built similar to Char-Broil Performance for the convenient mobility.

I’m not really sure why but this gas grill really reminds me of a time machine. It must be the dual stacks that project from the lid! Jokes aside though, the dual stacks that project from the lid are actually one of my favorite features on this awesome gas grill. With these projections, the heat is actually distributed more evenly as these allow excess heat and gases to seep out and even out the cooking field within the lid! After grilling, the dual stacks also provide for a safer way to allow the heat to escape and cool down the gas grill itself without exposing a large cooking surface that could be hazardous.

Speaking of the cooking surface, the Char-Griller 3001 Griller Pro sports a very wide 438 square inches of main grilling area with porcelain coated cast iron grates. And if you think that’s not enough, there is also a 192 square inch warming rack to keep finished pieces of meat on! Although its size is just a shy smaller than Char-Broil’s, you can still easily serve a party of 4-6 peeps at the same time.

Now here gets interesting… Although the Char-Griller only has 3 stainless steel burners, it doesn’t lack in the heat department. In fact, when it comes to firepower, the Char-Griller burns its competitors to the ground. Not literally though. The Grillin’ Pro has a total of 40,800 BTU’s plus a side burner with a 12,000 BTU heat capacity. Its side burner works just the same with Char-Broil’s but this one has stronger heat strength. Cooking power alone is superb. Given the size of its cooking surface, paired with strong firepower, this machine has better heat efficiency. Meaning, it distributes heat across the surface evenly, hits high temperature and gets hot REALLY FAST! The high BTU ratings are especially great for searing as well due to its strong heating capacity. Needless to say, this gas grill can pack quite the punch!

The body of this gas grill is made of a durable steel construction with side shelves and utensil hooks. They are perfect for putting plates, utensils, as well as bowls of sauces and marinades. When you’re just about ready to start grilling, starting this gas grill is as easy as pie with its electronic ignition. Though fair warning, igniters are usually the first ones to fail. But that just happens like in any other grills. There’s also a mounted thermometer on the lid to easily monitor the temperature of the grill and control the heat to your liking. Finally, once you’re done with your grilling, the Char-Griller is easy to move around with its large durable wheels.

In the end, you don’t really need to pay a lot of cash just so you can feel like a pro. Char-Griller Grillin’ Pro can be your best partner along the way into becoming a pro griller, without breaking the bank. With about 10 to 15 bucks difference, the Grillin’ Pro is a little pricier than the Char-Broil Performance. Nevertheless, you get a more powerful piece of machine that can totally heat things up!

Here’s a Quick Recap of Char-Griller 3001 Grillin’ Pro’s Sizzling Features

  • Heavy Steel Construction
  • Porcelain coated cast-iron grill grates
  • 40,800 BTU’s main burner and 12,000 BTU Side Burner
  • 630 Sq. In. Total Cooking Area
  • Electronic Ignition
  • Durable powder-coated finish

Coleman RoadTrip LXX Grill

Moving on to our final list is a little different from the rest. We’ve already got awesome choices for a traditional sized gas grills. This time, we’re going for portable gas grills. Believe me, owning a portable grill makes the outdoors much more fun. Personally, I also own both a traditional sized and portable gas grills. But depending on your needs and lifestyle, I know people who just own a portable grill for all their grilling actions. And they’ve been more than happy for the experience. After all, you can still cook the same delicious grill recipes with the convenience of portability and easy storage.

When it comes to camping and outdoor gears, the first thing that pops to mind are those made by Coleman. No surprise there, since Coleman has always been the hallmark for camping gears and all things for the great outdoors. They’ve been in the business of producing reliable gears through and through. Hence, portable gas grills are no exception. They offer quite a number of options. But I’m a big fan of their RaodTrip series, wherein the LXX is the RoadTrip’s top of the line. First thing you’ll quickly notice is just how incredibly portable it is. The Roadtrip LXX not only looks sleek as heck in black but is about to prove to you why it’s worth every penny! Let’s start with the construction of its body.

It’s made of brushed stainless steel which is not only shiny and swanky but also very durable and ideal for cooking. Every detail is designed with portability in mind. Therefore, staying true to the mobile trademark of Coleman, the Roadtrip LXX sports two wheels that can traverse any terrain. Keeping it in storage is a breeze with its easy-to-operate collapsible legs. While setting up is just as quick and easy. Once set up, starting up this gas grill is super easy with Coleman’s trademark InstaStart matchless lighting system. You’ve also got a pair of handy-dandy stainless steel sliding side tables to keep tools and ingredients at the ready while they can also slide out-of-the-way when not in use.

For cooking power, you’ve got a considerable 22,000 BTU’s on an extra large cooking surface of 285 square inches for a portable grill. If you’re just going to base it on numbers, its BTU would seem exponentially lower than the rest on the list. But that won’t be accurate. As a matter of fact, the LXX has great heat efficiency for its size. Its fire power is hot enough to thoroughly cover its cooking surface and get insanely hot fast!

Another noteworthy feature of the Coleman LXX is its cooktop. You can actually interchange it depending on your cooking needs with Coleman’s SwapTop series. Mix and match your grill to a griddle, and even to stove grates to give a very wide variety of outdoor cooking options. You just have to buy them separately though.

The LXX can’t exactly do what fancier, free-standing, stainless steel gas grills can do. It can still grill your usual burgers, chicken, steaks and hotdogs, just not really large pieces of meat all in one go. It can also take slightly longer to cook them than with a standard backyard grill, but that’s to be expected. Nevertheless, you can easily serve food to your family or small circle of 3-4 people without a hitch. To make sure that your cooking is foolproof, the RoadTrip LXX also sports Coleman’s Perfect Flow technology which promises to provide consistent performance regardless of the weather conditions – even the most extreme situations!

Just a little shy away from 200 bucks, the RoadTrip LXX offers huge bang for your bucks over any other portable units. Not to mention, this sleek grill is brought to us by a trusted and long-tested brand, Coleman. So, it’s no-brainer for me to include this as my best gas grills under 200 dollars. It’s perfect for people who don’t have large space to accommodate bigger grills. Or, simply because you want to extend the thrills of grilling outside your home!

The Round-Up

When looking to buy the best gas grills under 200 dollars, I personally like to do my research at home. Much like you’re doing right now too. This definitely helps rule out impulse buying as well as overspending. If you don’t feel like going from store to store and finding grills that aren’t keepers for you, you can always check a ton of online guides like this one for your utmost convenience! It’ll also be helpful if you’re knowledgeable on how to buy a grill to have better understanding of your needs and make smarter purchases.

Although, we always start with setting a budget when we’re out to buy stuff. Of course, price shouldn’t be the only factor that comes to mind when you go online to shop for your gas grill. Though it’s definitely a big part of any purchase. The money you shell out isn’t everything. You also have to take into consideration a bunch of other factors! One of the most important things to check out is the build quality of the gas grill. Is the material durable? Do you see yourself using it for years and years to come?

It’d be a shame if you got yourself a cheap little gas grill while you have to constantly take it out to get fixed. In addition, you have to check the cooking power and heat distribution of your gas grill. This would be the BTU rating of a gas grill which is especially relevant. The higher BTU rating means a stronger heat distribution capacity. As a result, you can determine if it can accommodate your grilling and cooking needs.

But take note though, a smaller BTU rating doesn’t necessarily mean that a gas grill won’t be able to cook as powerfully. A smaller BTU rating is usually coupled with a smaller cooking surface. This means it doesn’t need as much fire power to distribute heat because it only has a smaller area to distribute heat on. Another, you have to check for side tables and tool hooks. Because in my experience, these features have always come to my rescue. Thankfully, a lot of the gas grills in the market right now also have these. But it always pays to be thorough, after all!

Portability is also a big factor to consider when you live in smaller apartments or very much into tailgating. So make sure you get a gas grill that you can move around easily or fold into a smaller form for easy storage. The last thing you need is a big grill imposing in the middle of the room and taking up too much space. Of course, you could always take the shortcut and just pick one the best gas grills under 200 bucks I’ve named here and save yourself the trouble!

Best Gas Grills under 100 Dollars | More Fun Cookout for Less

Now that we’re finally experiencing some decent sunny days, it is officially a perfect time to have your very own barbecue party with family and friends! Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case for a lot of people in this economy. It really sucks when you can’t have your very own barbecue because of a number of obstacles – a less than desirable budget on hand, for one.

Unlike a lot of the big grillers out there, we can’t all have the bucks to shell out for a big swanky grill to feed tens of people. So a lot of us settle for store-bought meals and takeout. Of course, budget isn’t the only reason why we can’t have the dreamy steel grills we want. People who live in cities and apartment buildings also have a harder time with this, because they can’t exactly set a big imposing grill and start smoking up the place.

Also, it is super tough to find a great gas grill that can fit in more limited spaces like a small balcony or kitchen. Lastly, the trickiest thing about looking for a more budget-friendly gas grill is the fear that a more affordable gas grill means getting an appliance where manufacturers skimped on a lot of the good stuff to produce. There’s also the feeling of compromising quality for the lowered price. Added to these, getting the wrong gas grill could mean replacing parts over and over because of poor quality and performance.

Here’s the thing though, what if I told you that I knew about a few grills that aren’t just easy on the budget but also perform extremely well for their price? What if I told you that you could absolutely find the best gas grills under 100 dollars? Yup, you definitely read that right: less than a hundred bucks! Not only are these pretty good at grilling, they’re also slightly more compact than the average gas grill so you can expect them to fit in slightly tighter spaces! Char-Broil Classic 280 2-Burner Gas Grill

Char-Broil is a household name when it comes affordable grills. Despite having a low price tag, doesn’t automatically mean they’re substandard and useless junks. Although I can’t deny they do have few flimsy grills around. Time and again, Char-Broil still able to deliver us reliable and well-featured grills for less than its actual value. A good example is the Char-Broil Classic 280.

Classic is exactly the word that is perfect for this beautiful gas grill. This grill sports a durable porcelain coated aluminum body in a cool dark steely color that fits any home. With a cooking area this size, you can pretty much feed a small family or average of 3 to 4 people easily. You can cook about 8 fat burger patties simultaneously or even a dozen of hotdogs. Hosting intimate gatherings will be your thing. And no matter how often you want, you can easily do so with a snap! Thanks to a Classic grill for a classic event.

The built-in handles are especially handy for moving this gas grill around especially with the help of the 6” wheels! Slow start-ups are never an issue with this gas grill. Starting this gas grill is made a breeze with the piezo ignition system for that reliable spark that never fails.

However, if there is something to look out for about this gas grill is that the use of light materials can make it seem a bit flimsy so just be careful not put too many things at once. Other than that, you’re pretty much set with this classic beauty!

I admit, there isn’t a lot of Wow factor here. It’s called Classic for the reason that it got all common features of a basic grill for a good price. Char-Broil Quickset 2-Burner Gas Grill

Here’s another great piece by Char-Broil! Not quite as classic as the Classic 280 2-Burner, but definitely not far behind when it comes to power and built. The Quickset 2-Burner Gas Grill is actually an earlier model than the Classic 280, hence some of its specs are slightly lower than the Classic. But because of this, it also has slightly cheaper price than the Classic.

There are still quite a lot of demand for the Quickset despite it being released at an earlier time. However, there aren’t plenty of stocks left as it’s not being produced on a wide-scale basis. When the supply isn’t enough to fill the demand, its price may get affected, prompting it be sold at a higher price at times. Nevertheless, the Char-Broil Quickset 2-Burner still falls in the 100 bucks range and that puts a big smile to a lot of grillers’ faces!

What’s great about this gas grill is how easy it is to set up! Upon unboxing this little beauty, it takes only about an average of an hour to put it together. You can start grilling by then in absolutely no time at all! In terms of grilling gear, The Quickset sports a hefty 26,500 BTUs of heat output from its 2 stainless steel burners.

It is more than you need to grill your favorite dishes on a wide 265 square inches of cooking area with the use of porcelain coated wire grates. In fact, this one has more heat efficiency than the Classic. This means it distributes heat across its surface more evenly and faster.

It may not be big enough for a block party, it sure is perfect for a small family. You can cook a lot of dishes at the same time with the medium-sized grilling area. While the BTU rating assures you that it gets hot fast. You don’t have to wait a while for the grill to be hot enough for you to start cooking. Plus, it definitely gets REALLY hot!

One of my favorite things about it is its good control of heat. It can hit high temperature and has good heat retention. This means that you can actually cook your usual dishes in low settings. So not only will you be spending less for a grill, you’d also be able to save more on its fuel since this gas grill won’t be a propane hog.

Due to its modest price tags, Its burners are the only ones with stainless steel material. Its overall body though is only made with plain steel. Not to mention, its firebox is supported with metal legs that don’t appear to be very thick. So it may not seem to be the sturdiest around. Still, it’s going to be sturdy enough to last you for couple of grilling seasons and several years. Just make sure to maintain this properly and keep it clean every after use to protect its materials from rusting. Fortunately, this one is rather easy to clean!

For your added convenience, plastic side shelves offer extra work space with build-in handles and tool hooks. With these, you never need to worry about running back and forth for your grilling tools or even reaching far for your meat plates, bowls of marinades and sauces. The durable porcelain coated steel lid and firebox is designed to withstand the harmful outdoor elements – all the while ensuring your own gas grill isn’t going to be a hazard to your home.

Cuisinart CGG-180TS Petit Gourmet Portable Gas Grill

This next one is actually a personal favourite of mine! I’ve always had a love for Cuisinart appliances because they’ve got a knack for producing a lot of useful appliances. They aren’t only known for the great performance, but are also pretty stylish. They certainly know how to keep the modern consumer happy. Albeit pricey at times, Cuisinart appliances almost always promise value for money and the Cuisinart Petit Gourmet Portable Tabletop Gas Grill is no exception.

I would also like to note that the Petit Gourmet grill is part of Cuisinart’s most affordable appliances but still is powerful enough to face off with some of the best budget gas grills out there. In terms of portability and compactness, this little beauty by Cuisinart no doubt takes the cake! It can fit almost anywhere and is absolutely perfect for people who live in places with more limited spaces.

You can actually just use this in a well-ventilated kitchen if you want. You don’t have to expose yourself under the sun for too long. Or if you’re more of an outgoing person, you can also bring this anywhere with you due to its compact size. You can grill at your friend’s place, at the park or camping sites. You can practically grill anywhere you go. Well, as long as the locations you visit allows it…

Take note though, since this is a smaller tabletop gas grill, you can’t expect it to pack the same heat as a standalone gas grill. The Petit Gourmet sports 5,500 BTUs of cooking power on 145 square inches of grilling surface. Despite having lower heat output and cooking space, this is definitely not something to scoff at. The grilling power on this thing is more than enough to grill your favorite dishes. You just have to cook in smaller quantities, which can fit about 8 burgers at once.

The Petit Gourmet is more than capable for cooking your own cravings or really small family, and not exactly for huge crowds. This grill is definitely more suited for urbanites as it is so easy to put out and start and you’d pretty much be ready to grill chicken, pork, or even vegetables.

However, if there is a category where the CGG-180TS Petit Gourmet Portable absolutely kicks ass, it is definitely build quality. Unlike most gas grills in the market, this has a design that sports a gorgeous stainless steel body for a bit higher price. It is not only resistant to adverse elements but is also ideal for retaining heat and is also incredibly low maintenance. But even if you opt for its colored alternatives, it still has a solid built made of steel with stainless steel burners. The grill grate itself is of a porcelain enamel which makes it quite durable and ideal for cooking.

There is handy lid latch to ensure safety as well as a spill resistant drip tray to keep your grilling experience as free of messes as possible! Other than build quality, this gas grill capitalizes on efficiency in gas usage. It is noted to use far less gas than most gas grills on the market. While its incredible portability is just the icing on the cake!

Although the Cuisinart Petit Gourmet is not a free-standing grill like the Char-Broil gas grills, it packs quite a punch in small package. Plus, you also have to consider its brand. It is by Cuisinart after all. Best of all, you have the option to use it independently. You don’t have to place it on top of a table as long as you purchase it with a stand. It will only set you back just slightly above the hundred dollar budget.

The beauty of owning a Cuisinart Petit Gourmet makes it so you’re not limited to just grill on your backyard. This is the most suitable choice if you simply have the knack for the outdoors, and has limited budget and space at home. It brings not only power but also versatility in your grilling arsenal! Hence, the Cuisinart Petit Gourmet is a perfect fit for the best gas grills under 100 dollars.

Here’s a Quick Recap of Cuisinart Petit Gourmet’s Sizzling Features

  • Portable gas grill with 145-square-inch grilling area and foldaway legs
  • Cooks 8 burgers, 8 steaks, 6 to 10 chicken breasts, or 4 pounds of fish at once
  • Powerful 5,500 BTU stainless-steel burner and even-heating porcelain-enameled grate
  • Aluminum legs and stabilizing feet set up in seconds; integrated lid lock keeps lid secure
  • Pronounced briefcase-style carrying handle and weighs 13.5 pounds

The Round-Up

So you see, it doesn’t take big bucks to get a great grill! The best gas grills under 100 dollars are more than enough to fulfill the needs of those who are on a tighter budget. Although a lot of us fear that getting a more affordable grill will mean that we chose to compromise on a lot of good features, this is will never be the case with enough research. It’s also really worth noting that price does not equal value. It doesn’t necessarily mean that getting a more expensive gas grill means a better performing grill. So remember to always read up on the features and specifications of a gas grill. Moreover, you also have to regularly upkeep your grill to its tip-top shape. No matter how expensive your grill is, if not properly maintained will deteriorate fast.

There are also other factors to consider when looking to buy for the best gas grill. One is by checking the BTU rating of the burners. Knowing this lets you know the maximum heat distribution capacity of your grill. Then, you should also check the materials used for manufacturing the grill. This is to see if it’s durable and can contribute to your whole cooking experience.

Extra features are always welcome! Look for a grill that can do more than the average gas grill. A lot of brands now are very competitive with extra features such as searing areas and rotisseries. However, you should be careful about getting an affordable grill with a lot of extra purposes because chances are the manufacturers skimped on material quality to create more features. Shopping on a budget can always be tricky but with all these tips in mind, you can never go wrong.

11 Most Important Things to Know on How to Buy a Grill

It’s finally that time of the year when the sun’s out and we can all finally go around town in the most fuss-free clothes and meet up with our family and friends; basically have all the fun that we couldn’t during the colder months. Indeed, summer is finally here and one of the most fun activities anyone could ever do? Have a big summer barbecue! After all, who doesn’t love a big juicy steak or burger to go with an ice-cold drink in the summer? I’m definitely a fan.

But of course, a barbecue party won’t be complete without the grilled meats! It’s probably the most significant part of any summer party, aside from booze. You need a great tool to cook on and having a good grill can mean the difference between a summer fiesta and a summer fiasco.

If you still don’t own a grill or looking to replace it, it might be a good idea to buy now before summer arrives. And if this is your first time buying one then before dealing with what model or brand, you first need to know how to buy a grill. Not just any kind or you’ll end up with junk and just burn through your cash. You need to know how to look for a good grill and what makes its features a great value for your money.

There are tons of things to consider when you finally decide to shop around and they’re all equally important. It’s not just about the price and how pretty and shiny a gas grill is! So let me give you tips on how to buy a grill!

Here are some of the most important factors on what makes a good grill that you have to keep in mind when shopping, especially on a gas grill.

How to Buy a Grill & What to Look for in a Grill

PriceFor whatever things we buy, we’re always limited by a budget. So you definitely have to first determine how far you’re willing to go for your grill in terms of the price. Are you a budget shopper? Are you looking for something mid-range? Or are you the shopper that consistently says money is no object?

Although it isn’t always the case that higher price means better performance. Usually as far as gas grills go, higher price usually means better build quality and materials as well as more extra features. Though nowadays, manufacturers discover better, cheaper alternatives everyday and you can also probably find great gas grills that suit you for way less than the top of the line ones that you were previously eyeing.

Once you’ve figured out the price range you’re willing to shell out for that new gas grill, you can now narrow down the products available for you. You can then decide for the extra features you’ll need and want for a grill. If you’re looking for a tabletop or portable gas grills, you can get one for just a hundred to hundred eighty bucks. While you can already have a pretty cool basic grill for just under 300 bucks. For those with bigger families will require more burners and bigger cooking space, so that may set you back for not more than $1000. Now if you have some cash to burn and be the envy of your friends, $2000 budget can already get you a long way! You can own a shiny new branded grill with all the nitty-gritty specs you’ll really need plus the extra frills!

Branded or not, what’s important is to always remember to set a budget for yourself because this helps weed out unnecessary temptation and spending. It always pays to shop responsibly, after all!

FuelHaving a barbecue is fun and nothing is more satisfying than smelling the aroma of sizzling meat paired with vegetables for the amazing meal that you’re preparing. But have you ever thought about the fuel that you’ve used up to create your sumptuous dishes?

There are 6 common fuel sources for your grill which are charcoal, gas, logs, wood pellets and electric. Each of them have their own merits and can cook remarkably.  However, if you really want to make the most out of your grill and find yourself wanting to cook steaks and other red meat most often, then you will need a charcoal or gas grill. You will need high heat for searing and this is achieved by having either of the two. Now don’t get me started on which of the two should you get, it will take us forever to decide on who’s the winner for the charcoal vs gas debate.

Now if you decide gas grills to be more convenient for you, there are 2 kinds of fuel you can choose from. You can either opt for a liquid propane (LP) or a natural gas grill. You cannot buy a gas grill that can use both liquid propane and natural gas at the same time. So if you buy a propane gas grill, expect to only use propane gas to cook foods with it. Although you can buy conversion kits that can switch your ordinary propane grill to natural gas grill.

Now if you’re wondering whether to buy a propane or natural gas grill, I’d always suggest you to go for natural gas grills, especially if you already have a natural gas line hooked up to your home. They just have more benefits and when it comes to being more eco-friendly as well, natural fuels are the way to go. After all, we live in an environmentally troubled time, so if there are options to lessen any harmful effects to our nature then let’s support in any way we can! Nevertheless, buying either one of these gas fuels will still boil down to your needs and lifestyle. If you can’t have access to natural fuel, then LPG grill is your best choice.

Always be sure to closely study the type of fuel that a specific gas grill needs. You can also consider which has more efficient fuel consumption for a gas grill. Also, it helps to know if the fuel is readily available in your area in case you run out.

workmanshipGoing back to what I said about considering the price of the grill, it always helps to determine the value that you’re getting for the money that you’re shelling out. Remember: value does not equal price. So how to buy a grill where you get what you paid for and possibly more? You find out if a grill is worth it by looking at the level of workmanship of a particular grill.

Does it have a solid built with proper welding and no sharp edges? What materials were used? Does it also have thick metals, sturdy legs, tough large wheels and well-fitted hinges and latches? These are just some of the questions you need to ask when looking on a new grill. If you’re seeing it personally, try shaking it a bit to see how it feels. It should feel solid and sturdy, and not wobble easily. You know a grill is built well when nothing shakes and everything feels hefty and firm.

While some grills are also coated with paint, so make sure it has good paint job and will not get chipped off easily as they also work as an added protection to the grill.

Grill MaterialsThe popular choice to date are made with thick stainless steel bodies as these are more durable, easier to upkeep and have better resistance against rust. You can say that rust is like the cancer of any grill. So having a tough exterior, high-grade and thick stainless steel materials can assure longer life for your grill. However, stainless steel gas grill are expensive to own. But if money will not be an issue and you definitely want one as well, then get a stainless steel that is nonmagnetic because they will not corrode fast. Another is to find one with 304 grade and contains more chromium and nickel in the alloy for tougher built, made to last longer.

Top of the line grills are usually made with stainless steel, cast aluminum, cast iron and enamel-bonded steel which are all of high quality materials, but are still totally not rust-free. A cast-iron that is not properly painted and an enamel-bonded steel that has its coating already chipped off are both already susceptible to rust.

The best alternative to expensive materials such as stainless steels is to buy grills that are made with cast aluminum and steel. They are reasonably priced, retains heat well and are also easy to upkeep. However burners are the heart of a grill, so make sure to at least invest on a gas grill that has stainless steel or brass-made burners.

As for the grill grates, you can find one that are made of stainless steel as well or cast iron. They are also usually coated with chrome, nickel, and porcelain. Cast-iron grates have nice heat conduction and thus leaves nice grill marks. However, you will have to oil it regularly for maintenance and preventive measure against rust.

For more affordable units, they usually coat their grates with porcelain which makes maintenance so fast and easy. Porcelain also has great heat and chemical resistance which is why a lot of manufacturers prefer it to this very day, while professionals love it for its perfection on leaving beautiful grill marks! Although they are rather heavy so you will just have to be extra careful in handling them to avoid chipping or cracking them accidentally.

The bolts and screws used should also be of the same strong steel. Also, it pays to have rubberized edges to avoid any painful bumping.

SafetyLuckily for us, the law now requires all appliances to have some sort of safety protocol. Like with water heaters, if it short-circuits or something goes terribly wrong in its mechanism, any sort of explosion will contain within the device. The same concept is applied to all gas grills but manufacturers have approached these malfunction fail-safes in their own unique way.

When you pick a grill, you should also try to picture yourself using it and try to imagine what would happen in the unlikely case that something goes wrong. Try to think about how you would go about such a sticky situation and how you would want your grill to react to the mishap. Pick the grill with the malfunction or fire protocol that you’re most comfortable with.

The materials used in making the grill itself are usually of a high fire rating, meaning it will take a very long time before it starts to burn. So make sure to thoroughly check if the grill’s materials are high-grade and thick enough to make sure it won’t get burned easily. Grease pans should also be kept at the right place and be easily accessible for cleaning to prevent flare ups.

In the case of an accident, a gas grill made of materials with high fire ratings will burn very slowly, giving your family enough time to vacate the premises while better-equipped people help you out. Having a baking soda around while grilling are great for putting small grease fires out. Though for larger fires, a fire extinguisher is your best weapon so invest on one as well to be safe. Though I’m pretty sure it won’t come to this, but better safe than sorry, right?

Cooking Grill surfaceThe gas grill that you pick would, of course, have to address how many people you’re planning to serve. How many people you often cook for is directly variable to the cooking area or surface that you’re working with; a bigger grilling area can make cooking for larger crowds a lot easier, while having a big grilling surface but only serving a small family or group could be a waste of resources.

So let’s say you often host a backyard barbecue parties, then make sure to invest on a large grill. While occasional cookouts for small and intimate group, a small grill is enough to do the job and will also save you the extra bucks.

Be sure to pick a gas grill that fits the crowd you feed by checking the size of the cooking area as well as the preparation surfaces. You can easily estimate if the size of the grill is appropriate for your family. You can do so by checking on the main cooking area which should be in square inches and usually provided under product’s details. Then divide the area by 72, the total will be your estimate for the number of people your grill can cook for simultaneously.

As an example, if the cooking area of the grill is 285 sq. in. then we divide it by 72, we’ll have an equation like this: 285 sq. in. ÷ 72 = 3.95. By rounding it off to 4, this gives us a quick estimate, we can then say that the grill can cook food for 3-4 people at the same time.

While if you plan to smoke large food items such as turkey, you can do so with a large gas grill. By large I mean one where there is at least a space to fit one head between the heating surface and the inside of the lid or hood of the grill, then you will have enough space to smoke such food.

When doing the computation for grill’s capacity to cook for each person simultaneously, make sure to only apply this to the area of the main cooking grate, not the total cooking size that manufacturers tend to inform us. Since they also include the size of warming surfaces to the total cooking area of the grill to make it look bigger. Nevertheless, having extra cooking surfaces like warming racks are very handy to have.

DimensionIt can be troublesome to have a grill that can’t seem to fit anywhere in your home so be sure to take measurements around your house beforehand to find the perfect spot for where you want your future grill to be. You have to take into consideration the level of ventilation, distance from flammable materials, and convenience of that particular area. Then after you take measurements of the available space for your grill, you can go shopping for one!

Although, there are some apartment buildings, condominiums or multi-family dwellings that only allow a specific type of grill you can use or has a distance requirement to follow for fire safety measures that you have to take note of before getting an oversized grill. In some places have even totally prohibited using of grills on balconies and decks such as in Connecticut. Building requirements seem to be more lenient towards using electric grills.

Still, make sure to check the fire code in your building and ask permission from your property owner(s) or fire marshals in your area before you swipe your credit card. Be sure to also check the size of the grill in the product’s descriptions and specifications to see if it matches your measurements or not.

HIGH HEAT CAPACITY (Temperature and BTU per Area)

BTU per Area temperatureCan’t make delicious steaks or juicy burgers without the right kind of heat! If you’re a steak lover and want to perfectly cook red meat with a nice crisp dark crust and red to pink doneness on the inside, even on thin steaks, you will want a grill that can get really hot! This is where British Thermal Unit (BTU) comes in.

BTU refers to the heat output of your unit. This means that the higher BTU of the grill, the higher levels of heat it can produce. However, having high BTU doesn’t automatically qualify the unit as the best choice because you also have to consider its cooking size. If the BTU level is too low for the size, then the grill may not produce enough heat to cook the food the way you want. While having too high BTU for a small cooking area can often generate too much heat and overcook your food and nobody also wants that.

So when you shop for a gas grill, you should definitely check its BTU rating and do a bit of calculating. The BTU/AREA rating determines how your grill efficiently distributes heat throughout its cooking surface over a specific unit of area. Ideally, a gas grill with 80 to 100 BTUs per square inch, or close to that heat ratio range, has good heat efficiency and can pretty much handle all your grilling needs. While 60 to 80 BTUs are more than enough for an infrared grill.

In addition, having a precise control on your grill’s temperature can make a difference to the taste and success of your cooking.  Cooking meats directly at high heat for too long will shrink its proteins, thus, leaving us with a hard and dry meat. So, gas grills, excluding portable ones, are recommended to have a minimum of 2 burners. This will allow you to create a 2-zone setup for direct and indirect cooking. Or if you have more burners, which is a plus, you can have low, medium and high heat zones for your cooking.

However, we don’t want to have hot and cold spots on your grill so watch out for burners that are too far apart. Distributing even heat across the cooking surface with good temperature control is the key to superb cooking and grilling experience.

FeaturesDon’t cheat yourself out of features that all gas grills in this day and age should have! After all, your gas grill is an investment and you should always aim to get one that gets you value for your money. Nowadays, almost any gas grill on the market has a built-in compartment for your gas tank as well as storage for starter fluid. There are also handy-dandy shelves that stretch out from the sides where you can place your plates of cooked and uncooked meats, and even your sauces and marinades!

Somewhere on the sides, there is usually a small convenient rack for cleaning rags, spatulas, tongs, or meat picks. Manufacturers usually have their own approach to these racks. Some create beautiful nodes on the body of the grill while some just put small hangers on the edge of the grill’s sides. These are the bare minimums of any gas grill in the market today.

While if having a side burner doesn’t cost too much of a difference, I would always suggest you to get one, specifically the one with flip down covers. After all, side burners are starting to become more of a staple among gas grills similar to how mobile phones have WiFi built-in on them. Having a side burner is an add-on convenience for warming up a sauce or cooking the sides like beans, corns, rice or whatever while grilling. And if you aren’t using the burner, you can still maximize it by using it as a table or extra space for your plates and stuff.

Grill WarrantyAll items we buy should always come with a warranty. But better grills comes with at least 5 years of free service and even on its assembly parts. There are gas grills that come with a separate warranty for each parts of the grill such as burner, ignition system and exterior body; so if the one you’d get comes with such a warranty arrangement, make sure to clear this with a sales representative or have a clear guide on it. The warranty should provide you everything that you’ll need from it.

In addition, make sure you’re buying from a well-reputed brand and good customer service. Because what’s the point of having long warranty if you can’t reach the company to avail it. You should be able to easily find the company’s customer support hotline and clear instructions for what to do in the event that you’d need new parts.

Extra Grill FeaturesIt is always a fun experience when something you own goes the extra mile and goes from an ordinary object to a great one. Today, the competition between manufacturers have become quite intense. Everyone always has something different and cool for you to try – extra features that you will scream, jump, and holler for joy. This is especially important for different brands because it’s what will set them apart from each other and can put you to a whole new level of grilling experience!

Some high-end grills have an extra burner for a searing area while some have a nifty little compartment to keep your meats fresh, and some have a cool convenient little waste chute. I call them as extra features as the sad thing about them is that they tend to be quite exorbitant and make a grill go way over your budget even though you can actually get by and still grill without these “extras“. However, if the budget permits, you should definitely look for a gas grill with as many extra features as you can! You never know how handy they will come to you when the time comes! There are just way too many extra features to name so I’ll just give you the ones that I feel are probably the most useful.

If you’re totally serious about having steaks every day and night, you gotta have a sear burners. You’ll get to cook a mouth-watering steaks with beautiful sear marks that you might unconsciously do the Italian fingertips kiss gesture for your perfect steak! Next one would be a smoker because with a smoker, you can also create delicious cured dishes aside from steaks and burgers. Can you imagine having a platter of salmon or pastrami to go with your summer parties? Amazing!

You should also check for infrared burners as this will definitely diversify the way you can prepare and cook your food, because with infrared burners, you can cook more delicately as well as more evenly with heat that comes in electromagnetic waves. Lastly, look for a gas grill with its very own rotisserie! Thanksgiving won’t be complete without a rotisserie turkey. So why just grill and sizzle when you can do a delicious roast as well?
